Working in Tower Hamlets
Tower Hamlets is high-density and high-rise, and that pushes the work firmly towards communal fire safety. Blocks with protected stairways, flat entrance doors that must self-close, corridor and lobby extinguishers, and the constant battle with residents wedging fire doors open in warm weather, which is a hold-open device problem, not a notice problem.
Around Whitechapel, Brick Lane and Bethnal Green there is a dense commercial strip of restaurants, cafés and small retail. Catering kitchens there need wet chemical extinguishers and blankets as a minimum, and the units are often small enough that the fire equipment and the escape door hardware are the same two square metres of wall.
Bow and Poplar bring in a lot of converted and ex-local housing where entrance doors have been replaced over the years with whatever was available, so flat entrance door upgrades and thumbturn cylinder work are routine. On the Isle of Dogs it shifts again to managed towers and concierge buildings.

What we are called out for most in Tower Hamlets
Fire doors
A fire door is only a fire door if it was fitted like one. We hang them, seal them, and make sure they actually close.
Read moreFire door hardware
The hardware is where fire safety and locksmithing meet, and where most firms have to call somebody else in. We do both.
Read moreLock replacement
New tenancy, lost keys, a relationship ended, a break-in, or an insurer asking for a standard you do not have. All the same job, done properly.

An extinguisher is only worth the wall space if someone has checked it. We service every make and type, record what we find, and leave you the paperwork.

Questions about working in Tower Hamlets
Residents keep propping the fire doors open. What can be done?
Fit electromagnetic hold-opens linked to the alarm. The doors stay open in daily use and release automatically when the alarm sounds. It is the only solution that survives contact with real residents.
Do you work with managing agents and block managers?
Yes. Much of our Tower Hamlets work is for agents managing several blocks, and we keep a record of what is fitted where so re-orders do not need another site visit.
