Emergency boarding up and property protection

Break-in, smashed window, storm damage or a door that will not shut. We make it secure and weatherproof tonight, then put it right properly.

Emergency boarding up and property protection

A broken door or window is not only a security problem. It is a weather problem, an insurance problem and, if you run a shop, a trading problem. The gap between the damage and the proper repair is where most of the additional loss happens.

We board up domestic and commercial property: doors, windows, shopfronts, communal entrances and fire-damaged openings. The boarding is cut and fixed to the opening rather than nailed roughly over it, so the property is secure, weatherproof and does not look abandoned.

What we board and protect

  • Front and back doors forced in a break-in
  • Smashed windows, glazed panels and side lights
  • Shopfronts and display windows, including out of hours
  • Communal and bin store doors in blocks of flats
  • Fire-damaged and water-damaged openings
  • Storm-damaged doors, gates and fencing
  • Empty and void property being secured against entry

Secure first, repair properly second

The right sequence is almost always to make it safe now and repair it correctly once the right door, frame section or glass has been measured and ordered. Trying to do the full repair at midnight usually means the wrong part fitted badly.

We board on the first visit, measure while we are there, and return with the proper materials, and both visits can sit on one invoice for an insurer. See door and window repairs.

Done so it can be lived and traded behind

Boarding that is cut to the opening, fixed to timber battens rather than to the glazing bead, and finished cleanly will keep weather out and will not come away in a wind. For shopfronts we can board behind the shutter line so the unit still looks tended rather than derelict, and where a door has gone we can fit a temporary lockable boarded door so the property is still usable.

Insurance and evidence

We photograph the damage before we cover it, record what was done to make it safe, and itemise the emergency visit separately from the permanent repair. Claim handlers ask for exactly that sequence, and having it ready usually shortens the claim.

Questions we get asked about boarding up

How quickly can you board up a property?

Across London and the Home Counties we aim to be with you the same day, and we prioritise anything left genuinely open: a forced front door, a smashed ground floor window, a shop unit that cannot be shut.

Will I be able to get in and out while it is boarded?

Usually, yes. Where a door has been destroyed we can fit a temporary lockable boarded door so you keep access and keep the property secure. Tell us when you call if the property is occupied or still trading.

Do you repair the door afterwards or just board it?

Both. We come from a carpentry and building background, so the permanent repair, new leaf, frame section, glazing bead, ironmongery, is our own work rather than a job we hand on.

Can you board up a shopfront out of hours?

Yes. Commercial boarding is a large part of what we do, and most of it happens after a break-in in the small hours. We will secure the unit so it can trade the next morning.
