Fire safety

Fire extinguisher supply and installation

The right extinguisher, in the right place, on the wall, not in a box in the stockroom waiting for someone to find a drill.

Fire extinguisher supply and installation

Buying extinguishers is easy. Buying the right extinguishers, putting them where someone will reach them in the dark, and mounting them so they are not sitting on the floor within a fortnight. That is the part people get wrong.

We survey the premises, specify by risk rather than by catalogue, supply the units, mount them at the correct height with the correct signage, and commission them on the day. You get a site that works, not a delivery.

Specified for the risk, not the room

Different fires want different extinguishers, and the wrong one makes things worse: water on a fryer, or a powder unit discharged over a server rack. A short walk round the building settles it:

  • Foam and water: paper, textiles, furniture, general premises.
  • CO₂: electrical risk, server rooms, plant rooms, anywhere the clean-up matters as much as the fire.
  • ABC dry powder: mixed-risk areas, workshops, vehicles, external plant.
  • Wet chemical: commercial kitchens and anywhere with a deep fat fryer. This is the one most restaurants are missing.
  • Fire blankets: every kitchen, domestic or commercial. See fire blankets.

Mounted, signed and commissioned

An extinguisher supplied loose is an extinguisher that ends up behind a door. We fix brackets or stands, set the unit at the right height for the type and weight, fit the identification sign above it so it can be found from across the room, and commission each unit with a dated service label.

Where the wall will not take a fixing, glass partitions, listed interiors, shopfronts. We use floor stands or fabricate a bracket that will work. That is the advantage of coming from a carpentry and fabrication background rather than a van full of catalogue parts.

Supply-only and multi-site orders

If you have your own maintenance team and only need the equipment, we supply and ship nationwide, including bulk orders for property portfolios and facilities contractors. Tell us the schedule and we will price it.

For multi-site clients we keep a record of what is at each address, so a replacement order two years from now does not start with someone walking round with a clipboard again.

Questions we get asked about extinguisher supply

How many fire extinguishers do I need?

It depends on floor area, layout and what is in the building, and the honest answer is that nobody can tell you from a phone call. As a rule of thumb most premises need coverage on every floor and within a short walk of any exit, with a specific unit beside any particular risk such as a kitchen or a plant room. We will walk the site and tell you the number.

Can you supply extinguishers without fitting them?

Yes: supply-only orders ship UK-wide. We will still tell you what type you want and where it should go, because an extinguisher in the wrong place is a cost rather than a protection.

What does commissioning mean?

Putting a new extinguisher into service: checking its pressure and seal on site, fitting it to its bracket, and labelling it with the date it entered service so the first annual service is due twelve months later. A unit that is never commissioned has no service history at all.

Do you supply extinguishers for vehicles and vans?

Yes, including the smaller powder units for vehicles, plant and boats, with the correct brackets so they stay put on the move.
