Fire extinguisher servicing and maintenance
An extinguisher is only worth the wall space if someone has checked it. We service every make and type, record what we find, and leave you the paperwork.

A fire extinguisher spends its whole life doing nothing, which is exactly why it gets forgotten. Pressure falls. Powder cakes solid at the bottom of the cylinder. A hose perishes where it has been clamped against a wall bracket for six years. None of that shows from the doorway, and all of it means the extinguisher will not work on the one morning it matters.
We service extinguishers on an annual cycle for landlords, shops, restaurants, offices, workshops, churches and private homes. You get an engineer who opens each unit rather than ticking a clipboard at the end of the corridor, and a written record of what was checked, what was replaced and what needs replacing next year.
What an annual service actually involves
Every unit on site is checked individually, not sampled. The job is the same whether you have three extinguishers in a shop or sixty across a block:
- External condition: dents, corrosion, damaged cylinders and anything that has been knocked off its bracket and left on the floor.
- Pressure: gauge reading checked against the manufacturer's band, and the gauge itself checked for sticking.
- Weight: CO₂ units are weighed against their stamped charge weight; a light cylinder has leaked and gets taken out of service.
- Hose, horn and nozzle: cleared, checked for perishing and splits, refitted correctly.
- Safety pin and tamper seal: replaced as a matter of course.
- Powder units: inverted and shaken so the charge has not compacted.
- Signage and brackets: right extinguisher, right place, right height, right sign above it.
Anything that fails is reported before we touch it. You decide whether it is refilled, replaced or removed. We do not swap out working equipment to sell you new equipment.
Early commissioning: bringing a building onto one date
If you have inherited a building where extinguishers were bought piecemeal, the service dates will be scattered across the calendar. That means repeat visits, repeat minimum charges and a renewal you will eventually miss.
We can commission a unit before its anniversary falls due and reset its cycle, so the whole site comes onto a single date. It costs less than running two or three visits a year and it gives you one reminder to diarise instead of six.
What you get afterwards
A service record listing every extinguisher by location, type, size, manufacture date and outcome. That is the document a fire risk assessor, an insurer or a letting agent asks for, and it is the one most people cannot find when they are asked.
Units that have reached the end of their serviceable life are flagged with a date, so the replacement is a budgeted decision next quarter rather than an emergency next year.

Questions we get asked about extinguisher servicing
How often should fire extinguishers be serviced?
Annually as standard, with a visual check by someone on site each month, which is a thirty-second look at the gauge and the pin, not a job for an engineer. Beyond the annual service, CO₂ units need an extended overhaul around ten years and water, foam and powder units around five, depending on the manufacturer.
How much does extinguisher servicing cost?
It depends on how many units and where they are, which is why we price the site rather than the extinguisher. Small sites of a handful of units are a fixed call-out; multi-site portfolios we quote annually. Send a rough count and a postcode and you will get a number.
What happens if an extinguisher fails the service?
We tell you first, with the reason. Depending on what failed it is a refill, a part, or a replacement unit. Nothing is condemned without you seeing why, and we never remove a working extinguisher from a wall in order to sell you another one.
Do you service extinguishers in private homes?
Yes. Home extinguishers are usually forgotten the longest, and a kitchen unit bought when the house was fitted out can easily be fifteen years old. We will service it, refill it or tell you honestly that it is past saving.
