Fire safety and security for shops, offices and commercial premises

Fire safety that survives an inspection

For commercial premises the fire safety equipment is not optional and the record of it is not optional either. An extinguisher with no service history is, for the purposes of a fire risk assessment, an extinguisher you do not have.

We service annually, record every unit by location and type, flag what is coming to the end of its life so replacement is a budgeted decision rather than an emergency, and bring a site onto a single renewal date so you are not paying three minimum charges a year. See extinguisher servicing.

Catering kitchens

The single most common gap we find in restaurants, takeaways and pub kitchens is a missing wet chemical extinguisher. Foam and powder are not the right answer to a fryer, and a kitchen with a blanket and an ABC powder unit is not covered. We specify both the blanket and the wet chemical unit, and fit them where somebody can reach them without walking past the fire.

Shopfronts, shutters and out-of-hours boarding

A unit that cannot be shut cannot trade. We board shopfronts, display windows and communal doors out of hours, cut and fixed to the opening so it is weatherproof and does not look derelict, then return with the proper repair once the glass or the door section has been measured and ordered. See emergency boarding up and door and window repairs.

We also fit shutter locks, anchor points and closed-shackle padlocks on units, compounds and containers, and reinforce the structure where the fixing has nothing solid to go into.

Escape hardware and fire doors

Final exits need to open instantly from inside and stay secure from outside. That is panic bars, push pads and escape-rated cylinders rather than a padlock and a sign. We fit the hardware and the fire doors it goes into, so there is no gap between two contractors. See fire door hardware.

Multi-site and nationwide

If you operate in more than one city we will take the whole programme: one specification, one schedule, one record. Call-outs stay a London and Home Counties service, but planned extinguisher, fire door and security work we travel for anywhere in the UK. See areas we cover.

FAQs

Questions we get asked

How often do commercial fire extinguishers need servicing?

Annually by an engineer, with a brief visual check by someone on site each month. CO2 units need an extended overhaul around ten years and water, foam and powder around five, depending on the manufacturer. We flag those dates in advance.

What extinguisher does a commercial kitchen need?

A wet chemical extinguisher for the fryer and cooking media, plus a fire blanket, plus general cover for the rest of the premises. The wet chemical unit is the one most often missing and the one an inspection will find.

Can you work outside trading hours?

Yes, and for most retail, hospitality and office clients we do. Evenings, early mornings and weekends are normal, and we will work to your building's access and permit procedures.

Do you handle emergency boarding for commercial premises?

Yes, including out of hours across London and the Home Counties. We secure the unit so it can trade the next morning, photograph the damage for your insurer, and come back with the permanent repair.
